What is data centre interconnect?

Connectivity between two or more data centre facilities, usually carrying replication, backup, and distributed application traffic. It is normally delivered as dark fiber or wavelengths rather than as an internet service, because the requirement is transparent high capacity with predictable latency rather than reachability.

Should we take dark fiber or a wavelength between facilities?

A wavelength gives you dedicated optical capacity without owning optics, amplification, or monitoring. Dark fiber gives you the glass and every decision above it, which is better value at very high capacity or many links and worse value for a single moderate one. How is latency determined between two facilities?

Mostly by the physical route length, which is longer than the map distance because fiber follows rights of way. Light in fiber covers roughly 200 kilometres per millisecond, so about 1 ms of round trip per 100 km of path, plus a small fixed amount for the equipment. Ask about the route length rather than the straight-line distance, and about what happens to latency during a protection switch.

Can you confirm route diversity between two sites?

Diversity is engineered and confirmed per path. Two circuits are not diverse simply because they were ordered separately, and shared conduit segments or a common crossing defeat diversity quietly. We confirm what is genuinely separate, in writing, at the level you are buying.
