Retail connectivity questions

How much bandwidth does a store need?

Point-of-sale traffic is tiny; everything sharing the circuit with it is not. Inventory sync, back-office and cloud applications, digital signage, camera coverage, and guest Wi-Fi are what determine the size, and the peak that matters is the busiest trading hour rather than the daily mean. Sizing from POS alone is the most common way a store circuit ends up under-provisioned.

Is dedicated fiber worth it over business broadband for a store?

It depends on what an hour of failed card processing costs at that location. A dedicated circuit is uncontended and symmetric with a committed rate; broadband is shared, and its performance at 5pm on a Friday is not the performance in the brochure. For a low-volume site broadband may be perfectly rational — for a flagship or a grocery anchor it usually is not.

How do you keep guest Wi-Fi away from payment traffic?

By giving guest traffic its own logical path and its own capacity, so it can never compete with or reach the payment environment. Segmentation is a design pattern we build to, not a compliance certificate: PCI scope and assessment remain yours, and we are happy to document exactly what the network does so your QSA is not guessing.

Can you roll out many locations at once?

Yes, and it is worth sequencing deliberately. Sites already near existing fiber turn up quickly; sites that need construction set the overall schedule, so surveying the whole estate up front tells you which is which and lets the fast sites proceed rather than waiting on the slow ones.

What happens if a store loses its circuit?

The circuit is monitored around the clock, so a failure is normally noticed before the store reports it. Where a location genuinely cannot trade offline, a secondary service over a different medium is the pragmatic answer, and it should be tested rather than assumed — a failover path nobody has exercised tends to discover its problems on the worst possible day.
